Marvin (Shorty) Wayne Craun, the son of Alfred and Ida (Gilbert) Craun, was born on January 2, 1931, in Ocheyedan, IA. He lived his youth in the Harris, IA area and received his education in the Harris Public School system. Following his school years Shorty served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On July 8, 1960, he was united in marriage to Darlene Roggenburg in Sherburn, MN. The couple was blessed with six children: Kim, Tammy, Lisa, Debbie, Lanny , and Doug. Following their marriage the couple resided in Hartley, IA area where Shorty worked as a jack of all trades. He worked as a plumber, electrician, carpenter, and did numerous jobs for local farmers. Shorty passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center Mann Wing in Hartley, on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the age of 77.
Shorty was a loving husband and a devoted father. He and Darlene had a trailer on Round Lake, MN for over 40 years where they enjoyed fishing with family and friends. Shorty loved to hunt, fish, camp, cruise the streets of Hartley and play lottery pull-tabs.
He is survived by his children: Kim Remillard and her husband, Terry, of Hartley, IA, Tammy Haburn of Hartley, IA, Lisa Kinney of Hartley, IA, Doug Popp and his wife, Joy, of Hartley, IA, Lanny Popp of Littlefork, MN; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother Al Duane Craun of Port Townsend, WA; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shorty was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Darlene, and daughter Debbie Nelson.
