Obituary of Fred Schroeder

Memorial Tribute Fred August Schroeder, the son of Henry and Dena (Heeren) Schroeder, was born on February 7, 1914, in Chatsworth, Iowa. He received his education in the Chatsworth Public School system. On November 17, 1934, he was united in marriage to Cleo Collmann in Plymouth County, Iowa. The couple was blessed with four children: Dean, Lynn, David and Deanna. Following their marriage the couple resided in Sioux City where Fred worked for Swift & Co. Fred and Cleo moved to the Hartley area in 1943 where they began farming with her parents. For four years, he owned City Sanitation in Spencer, and sold bulk gas and seed corn. During retirement he occasionally helped on the farm. Fred passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the age of 94. Fred had been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1943. He served as a church elder, past president of men’s club, and was on the building committee for the educational addition of the church. He loved to fish, watch baseball, play cards and meet his friends for morning coffee. He is survived by his wife of 73 + years, Cleo; his children: Dean Schroeder and his wife, Glenda, of Pine, CO, Lynn Olhausen and her husband, Dale, of Loveland, CO, David Schroeder and his wife, Becky, of Hartley, IA, and Deanna Enright, of Mankato, MN; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Walt Schroeder, of Spencer, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
