Obituary of Craig Schott

Please share a memory of Craig to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Craig Allen Schott was born in Sheldon, IA on November 12, 1977 to Ron and Audrey (Keizer) Schott. He lived his entire life in Sanborn, attending Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Schools. He continued his education for one year at Iowa State University. During high school, he worked at Total Tire in Sanborn as a mechanic—a job he really enjoyed. This convinced him to continue his college education at NCC in Sheldon for two years. He graduated from the automotive program in 1999. He continued to work at Total Tire for a few months, along with being employed for a short time at Hiway Chevrolet in Rock Valley and the Sanborn Co-op Elevator. He then began working at Pella Corporation in Sioux Center in May of 2000. He enjoyed his job there, working on many different aspects of the window production line. Craig married Holly Kreykes on April 6, 2001 in Sanborn. They made their home in Sheldon for 5 years, before moving into their new home in Sanborn in 2006. He took pleasure in his big, new garage—hoping one day to finish restoring his 1969 Chevelle SS in all that space! He enjoyed working on cars and being outside, especially golfing and hunting with his dad. He was an active member of Cornerstone URC in Sanborn, where he and Holly had been youth group leaders. Craig loved the Lord, and it was evident in his daily life. He enjoyed life, and was not one to complain. He looked for the good in all circumstances, knowing the Lord is in control of all things. He was a loving, caring husband and father. In August of 2006, Craig was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He underwent radiation and numerous doctor visits, but always maintained a positive, Christian attitude. He started chemo therapy in December of 2007, which was successful for a time. His condition continued to deteriorate, and he entered Sanford Sheldon Hospital on May 1, where he remained until his death on May 11, 2008, at the age of 30. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 7 years, Holly; his children Makenzie, 3 ½ , and Dayton, 8 months; his parents, Ron and Audrey Schott; a sister Rachael and Keith Enger and their children, Travis and Kailey, and Holly’s parents Dr. Edwin and Sandra Kreykes, all of Sanborn; 2 sisters-in-law: Heather and Chris Aaron and their children Michael, Marcus and Caleb of Sheldon, and Maria Kreykes of Rock Valley; his grandmother, Jackie Keizer of Sheldon; Holly’s grandmothers, Ida Kreykes and LaVera Krikke, both of Sanborn; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Richard Keizer and Cletus Schott, and his grandmother Leona Schott. A Celebration of Life… Craig A.
