Memorial Tribute
Helen Theresa (Penning) Peplau, the daughter of Lawrence and Anna (Ahlers) Penning, was born on April 2, 1925 at Ashton, Iowa. She spent her school years in the Ashton area, and attended country school there.
On January 30, 1951, she was united in marriage to Victor Peplau, at Ashton, Iowa at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Following their marriage the couple were engaged in farming in the Ashton area, until retiring and moving to Sheldon in July of 1983. Helen moved to the Prairie View Nursing Home in July of 1997 and Vic followed her in 2007. Helen passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home on April 4, 2008 at the age of 83.
Helen was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, and the church guild. She enjoyed sewing, and spending time with her family. Other hobbies included playing cards, dancing, making bookmarkers, and making Barbie doll and G.I. Joe clothes with her sister Mildred.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 57 years, Victor; two sons: Marvin Peplau and his wife, Janet, of St. Peter, MN, and James Peplau and his special friend, Laurie of Archer, IA; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; five sisters, Mildred Schnurr of Urbandale, IA, Sister Brenda Penning of Wabasha, MN, Marian Penning of Omaha, NE, Theresa McCarty of Centerville, IA, and Christine Solko of Omaha, NE; other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Robert, Leonard, and George.
