Obituary of Elmer Kraver

Memorial Tribute Elmer Klaver, the son of Harry and Sadie (Terpstra) Klaver was born on December 25, 1927 in Sanborn, Iowa. He spent his childhood years in Sanborn, and attended Sanborn Christian School. Elmer served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. On March 19, 1952, he married Jean Elgersma at the Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn. While Elmer was stationed in Florida, Jean came back to Sanborn to live. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Sanborn where the couple raised their two children, Tim and Vicki. They farmed northwest of Sanborn for 44 years. Elmer lived on the same farm place for 48 years. He retired from farming in 1998. The couple enjoyed 55 years of marriage. In August of 2007, Elmer entered Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. It was there that he passed away on December 13, 2007 at the age of 79. Elmer enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fixing wheelchairs. He loved to sing in the church choir, and was often involved with Men’s Quartets. A life-long member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, he had served as both an Elder and a Deacon. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife Jean; two children and their families: Tim and his wife Shelly Klaver of Sanborn, and Vicki Van Voorst of Sioux City, IA; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 11 step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Andringa of Sheldon, IA, and Pearl Van Beek of Rock Rapids, IA; a sister-in-law, Marie Klaver of Sheldon, IA, as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence.
