Obituary of Velma Mullins
Please share a memory of Velma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Velma Elsie (Trojahn) Mullins, the daughter of John and Ella (Wiese) Trojahn, was born on April 10, 1919 in Moneta, IA. She spent her childhood years in Moneta, where she was educated in the Country School No. 7 of Center Township. On August 12, 1951, she married Gerald Mullins.
Velma spent her life living God’s greatest commandment out to the best of her ability—“Love God with your whole heart and love your neighbor as yourself.” She patterned her life after Christ by serving others.
God gave her many gifts—among them: cooking and baking, the discipline to clean and keep things clean, and the ability to make plants and flowers come to life and thrive. She had a tremendous mind, and could recall with accuracy, dates, events, people, and how those people fit together in the family. Velma possessed an iron will—given the times she grew up in, a tremendous asset to surviving. During the course of her life, she touched many people who could say with pride, they called her friend. Velma passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center Mann Wing in Hartley, IA on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the age of 88. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Survivors include one son Rodney Mullins and his wife Marcia of Somers, IA; nine grandchildren: Tricia (Joe) Mernka, Jennifer (Josh) Harrington, Nicole (Jordan) Moffitt, and Christa, Clint, Eric, Nathan, Kayla, and Brittany Mullins; four great-grandchildren: Chance, Clara, Alexis and Wyatt; three brothers: Marvin (Lois)Trojahn of Moneta, IA, Allen (Joyce)Trojahn of Spencer, IA and Orlin (Diane)Trojahn of Terril, IA; three sisters: Evelyn Roberts of Spencer, IA, Dorothy Meehlhause of Hartley, IA, and June Rose (Irel) Bruns of Spirit Lake, IA; other relatives and friends.
